D2R2 2016

The Deerfield Dirt-Road Randonnee (aka D2R2) is a cycling event held in late-August in Franklin County, Massachusetts. Following the French tradition of randonneuring, the ride is a self-supported, challenging endeavor on unmarked roads and trails. Routes of varying distances are offered, ranging from a 16-mile family ride along the Green River to a 180km long ride.

This year, my friend, Bruce, and I rode the 100km route. This route started in Deerfield and worked its way up into southern Vermont via a dastardly combination of paved roads, gravel roads, jeep tracks, and farm paths. With over 6,000 feet of climbing, it was a very challenging ride. But we survived! There was also camping, good food, craft beer, and lots of great company.

D2R2 is hosted by the Franklin Land Trust, with proceeds from registration fees and merchandise sales going toward various land conservation projects.
